Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

I suspect he is looking for a piece of hardware that can sit in line to facilitate monitoring the RIAA equalized feed going to the cutting head. He just needs a typical riaa playback circuit without the 40 dB of gain at 1kHz.... JR Indeed, my goal is a tidy, already designed solution. As mentioned ...

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

It looks to me that Wayne has a "paint by number" kit which should simplify the work required to set up that monitoring path.

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information

I have a potential idea to use the line level portion of the system for an unusual application. Background. Several years ago, Chad Kassem (owner of Acoustic Sounds here in Salina, KS) bought the Neumann lathes and all of the related custom electronics from the estate of Doug Sax along with the Mast...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ranch

Well....now two brand new SYLVANIA "60 Watt" bulbs have failed within a few months. Flickering like a disco light.

Grrrrrrrrr BULLSHIT! I want the Olde GE incandescents back. They seemed to last for 1000 hours versus dozens of hours for these Mandated trash bulbs which cost much more.

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

My wildest "on the curb" story...... Several years ago, it was the entire frame and internal wiring harness of an Ampex MM-1100. It had been a parts donor for another machine, so lots had been stripped off. Head block, motors, VU meters, PSU and audio cards and the card cages. It lasted maybe two ho...

Re: Entropy

I've used a product called Shoe Goo for those repairs (from Walmart, Target, etc....usually in the shoe department). It smells like silicone type adhesive.

Re: Audio Test and Measurement Software

There is a looong thread at GDIY about Room EQ Wizard (referred to as "REW"). It seems to have matured into a full-blown testing suite for a lot more than checking speaker response. It's totally free, with the option to make a $$ donation. https://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=70372.0 I have a Dell W...

Re: MCI console automation retrofit

OK, I guess I'm still in the weeds! lol I still run across MCI JH-600 series desks "in the wild", and with the automated version, when the JH-50 system craps out, important features are kaput. Fader mute is the most important, but solo in place and fader grouping are quite useful. I have a client wh...
