Re: MM flat preamp … i need a set of fresh ears

It’s all a bit of a moving target. The lighter load that had some click suppression is a good example. A click is distortion of the original waveform. You could argue it either way. Suppressing the click is closer to the original waveform or not suppressing the click is accurately reproducing what’s...

Re: MM flat preamp … i need a set of fresh ears

If the setup is for listening enjoyment then anything goes. Whatever you like best is best. If you are going for accuracy then without access to the source file or tape there is no objective way to judge anything.

Re: Entropy

I got the new de soldering station. I really like it. It works great and doesn’t feel cheap. My suspicions that it’s a Hakko knockoff seem correct. The holder came with a Hakko 808 desoldering gun. See pictures.

Re: Entropy

My Weller WRX 1002 just died. The other day it wasn’t working well despite vigorous cleaning. When I turned it in yesterday I got an error message on the display. The vacuum seems to work although the pressure seems low. The handpiece won’t heat up though. I opened it up and poked around. There were...

Re: T Attenuator Termination Kluge

The TKD pots are on the way. It’s a 30 day lead time. Now I have to figure out what to do with the RF15’s. I think they may be manufacturing bad mojo. Bad mojo drops off according to the inverse square law but is still too much.

Re: T Attenuator Termination Kluge

My experience with TKD 2500 series has been great. I used them for the Dual Class A headphone amp. They are better than the RF15 in every respect except maybe look and feel. The RF15's feel really expensive. They usually elicit oohs and ahhs from anyone who touches them.

Re: T Attenuator Termination Kluge

I got a quote of $145 each for three 4 channel TKD 2500 attenuators. I only need two but I suppose a spare is okay. Maybe a minimum order type thing. It's round about $500. I payed more for one RF15 so I'm not complaining. This price includes a custom version. I asked for a single detent at the full...

Re: T Attenuator Termination Kluge

I have the fader after the bridged T attenuator. 30-40 ohms is throwing off the termination and therefore the gain steps. I could put the fader before the bridged T attenuator. I suppose 40 ohms is a low enough source impedance not to cause problems. I just got some more documentation it says the to...

Re: T Attenuator Termination Kluge

Dale Manquen's son Luke took over MANCO. I have a correspondence going but I'm getting less optimistic by the day. He didn't seem like he knew the answer of the top of his head. The spec sheet makes no reference to minimum series resistance. I'm still trying to get a quote for the TKD rotary faders....

Re: home improvement turns into science fair projects?

I meant a Neumann lathe. It’s no more than a couple of hundred pounds. I don’t think I’d even attempt to put a Scully in there. Too heavy. Studer A80 2 tracks are fine. 24 tracks no way. The minivan also doubles as a closet. I live in a 4th floor walk up and the studio is packed. I might as well get...
