Re: Entropy

I just ordered a battery setup for the "cottage". It's a battery charger and four batteries. Two groups of two. I can charge one set down the hill and lug the charged batteries up the hill. I will probably add solar panels in the near future. I figure I'll start slow and become familiar wi...

Re: Entropy

Paul I'm seeing some business opportunities here: Combine vinyl mastering with saw sharpening. Very similar things. I agree. It's right up my alley. The best magazine about the Adirondacks is called Adirondack Explorer. There was an article about a "legendary saw sharpener". I saw a lot o...

Re: Entropy

Crosscut saws are tapered thinner from the teeth up to the top edge to avoid that problem. In other words the kerf is a couple of hundredths of an inch wider than the top edge of the saw. You can also make a cut to the underside of the log first to relieve some of the pressure. A rope helps too. As ...

Re: Entropy

I ordered a 4.5' one man crosscut saw on Tuesday. By the time you get all the accoutrements it probably costs more than a chainsaw setup. I'm still committed. You need a sharpening jig with specialized tools to sharpen and set. On a crosscut saw there are cut teeth and raker teeth. The cut teeth bre...

That's what I thought. A few Adcom or NAD amps. There are probably multichannel ones too. I love a good project but Buy It Now on the ol' bay is tempting.

Re: Entropy

You'd be surprised how effective the Sugowaza is. After the rainstorm on Sunday a tree 6"-8" round fell across the driveway entrance. I cut the trunk twice and cleaned off a bunch of branches. It took no more than 5:00. For large stuff I'm getting a crosscut saw. An old style loggers saw. ...

Re: Entropy

The single best purchase I have made is a Japanese tree saw. The thing is amazing. You can go through a 6" round softwood tree like a pine, cedar or spruce in eight strokes. It's like a little chain saw that prunes. http://www.silkysaws.com/Silky_Saws/Curved_2/Silky-SUGOWAZA-420-XL-teeth-#sthas...

Re: Entropy

Thanks Wayne. I like both the city and the boonies. If I moved there I would probably loose half my business. And not the half I want to loose. I can see doing a little property development there. The housing stock available there is terrible. The way most sites are excavated is ugly. Most clear thr...

Re: Entropy

Here is a shot of the excavated road. It's taken from a similar place as the picture in the previous post with pictures looking up the road. The excavator did an amazing job. He's like an artist. He didn't cut straight lines or take down more trees than necessary. The part of the road that needed to...

Re: Entropy

The movie "Marjorie Morningstar" starring Natalie Wood was shot in Schroon Lake. It is virtually unchanged from 1958. It's a good movie too. Gene Kelly is very good in it. You see him act.
