Re: Phono Transfer System
I removed the old Shure SE22 phono pre I was using today. I'm all in. I'm going to build a "demo unit" and pass it around. I'm very curious to get feedback from others (mostly cutters). First I need to finish restoring the lathe I'm supposed to deliver in six weeks...At least I got this bu...

Re: Phono Transfer System
Paul - You might want to cut the wire ties bundling the left channel gain switch to the right channel input leads and re-route the left gain switch separately. That might be introducing a capacitive imbalance in either the right channel input or left channel front-end. The imbalance was there befor...

Re: Phono Transfer System
I did some more work on the gain switching I want. I set it up with the gain range I wanted and the fine trim. http://www.saltmastering.com/PTS/PTS-gain-1.jpg +/- 6dB wasn't a fine enough resolution for me so I tried +/- 3dB. Still no good. I am using this primarily for reference listening so I want...

Re: Phono Transfer System
Thanks. It's going to be very flexible. I realized that with a 1:32 step up the Denon 103 wants to see a 100k load which is already there. I was using 1:16 before. I was going to use a second set of transformers for the SPU. Now all I have to do to change over to the SPU is put the right value paral...

Re: Phono Transfer System
Wayne was kind enough to send me assembled and tested PCB's to build a Phono Transfer System. This is like a dream come true for me. I've always wanted something like this. My needs are different than Wayne's so I built it up a bit different. My primary use is to interface with a lathe for playback....

Re: Flat Phono Preamp Based on John's P10 and 2SK389
I got a D Sub installed on the SME 3012 but it turned out to be a DB15. The holes lined up perfectly. I had to use some washers as spacers to use the screws and spacers that were part of the SME. You can't use the big SME sleeve that slips over the exposed connector on the tone arm because the matin...

Re: Flat Phono Preamp Based on John's P10 and 2SK389
I use an SME 3012 on the lathe. It's the 12" version of the 3009. It's the standard tonearm on a Neumann lathe. They made a bracket for it. There were also brackets for a Grace, which was a Japanese SME knock off of high quality. Also an Ortofon 309. The SME uses a strange four pin connector. I...

Re: Flat Phono Preamp Based on John's P10 and 2SK389
+1 on JR's calcs. I noticed that the Lundahl spec sheet for that states that the primary requires one side to be grounded. I wonder why? It doesn't show to have an electrostatic shield tied internally. I don't know. I didn't notice that requirement until after I had them. I didn't like it one bit. ...

Re: Flat Phono Preamp Based on John's P10 and 2SK389
Thanks John. Referencing Wayne's schematic on page 16, what would be the best way to implement the load in this balanced configuration? I'd think strapping the resistor across the differential input isn't the best approach.

Re: Flat Balanced Input/Balanced Output Moving Magnet Phono
This is the latest schematic of the Flat Balanced Input/Balanced Output Moving Magnet Phono Preamp. I know there is a trasnsformerless MC preamp in the works. I think I would like to try my Denon 103 with a step up transformer into the MM preamp. I believe you said somewhere that this was a valid a...
