Wide Bass Synth Parts

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

Wide Bass Synth Parts

Post by mediatechnology »

I just heard this for the first time today on FM (monitoring near-field) and the bass synth part is annoying as hell because its too wide.

Rubblebucket, "Fruity" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c339yyfHxEM

The LF Width was so obvious I thought it might serve as an example.
Just for grins I dubbed it off of YouTube (yeah sometimes we have to use Google) and did a DSP Mid/Side conversion in CoolEdit.
The Side channel is very choppy with the bass synth stepping on other parts.
The LF synth part, in Side, is inducing some kind of downward compression in that channel (like ducking) either from processing or codec.
Its just odd-sounding.

Interesting song and band though and I do have to give them credit for having some dynamic range and avoiding hyper-saturation.
That's somewhat of a rarity...

I think I'm going to don some headphones and run this through the EEQ to see what happens.
