My friend just purchased a used ShopBot PRS: http://www.shopbottools.com/mProducts/prSalpha.htm

His has a 96" x 60" work area.
I'm hoping to engrave and cutout panels on his ShopBot.
He's already made a ring and pinion gear for his flat earth models using it.
It's a pretty amazing tool.

that sounds like a real production machine.... did he get the alpha with the closed loop?

2 mil repeatability is pretty decent for that size table.

I forgot to ask but based on the original price he quoted ($19,995) I think its the open loop version.
The cutting speed for some materials is limited without feedback.
Sort of like slew rate limiting I guess.

His bits will cut T6 aluminum.

nah more like checking it's work... you can cut slower and ASSume it can always keep up. With feedback it will tell you if it can't keep up.

looks like a serious machine.

It is the manual tool change model.
I'm not sure what HP his router is.

I wish I had room for one. I've thought long and hard about a setup and i just can't see it happening given current circumstances.

The Shop Bot cuts the ring gear and the astrological formations on the dome prior to vacuum-forming.
