Thanks for all your answers; I was more concerned about any physical damage that could be done to the transducer because of the increased tension, not the sonic aspects.After the first two or so the tension isn't as tight. The tension however doesn't effect the delay of the line, the number of turns does since it's torsional. In that sense it's not like a musical instrument string.

We used the 13.5 ms line in the XL-305 on that same sled. The transducer that the spring hooks on to is a piece of wire soldered into a brass tube. It has quite a bit of pull strength.

I am recalling a lightbulb shunt limiter on the dedicated reverb amp/speaker combo in my Hammond M102 organ. I assume that's to address the boioioioioinnnggg.

I think it could be for boing. IIRC Orban used a limiter in their unit.

So the lamp is a transducer burnout protector rather than de-boing device.
EDIT: Listening to some of the heavily distorted Perez Perado tracks from the 50's and 60's I can see why they added the lamp.

The Orban reverb was one of the nicest sounding units using "Hammond" springs. It used a "floating threshold detector" that seemed to do a good job.
There's also one unit I'm very curious about: Fairchild had a chunky beast with springs; I remember, there was one at Studios Barclay when I worked there in the 70's -it was decommissioned at the time. I have found only minimal litt about it, no schemos. Maybe it didn't sound that good...

I've not heard one to comment. 3 tanks I think. Uses the Fairchild SS 600 series mic preamp modules for pickup; maybe for drive too. Have to look at some pics I've saved to remember.
