Mid Side M-S Matrix Uses No Precision Resistors
This precision sum difference matrix for M-S mid side uses the 0.005% matched internal resistors of the THAT1240. It encodes or decodes depending on how you define the inputs and outputs. Update December 3, 2018. For a modern implementation of the precision MS matrix see: https://www.proaudiodesign...

A Matrix-Based Pan Pot With Variable Width
This one uses a sum-difference matrix using the THAT1240. It is not a constant power panner but is instead constant voltage mono sum. It's pretty smooth. An interesting thing is that the insert can be used to introduce a frequency or time-dependent element while a perfect mono sum is still maintaine...

Benchmark Mic Preamp from 1984 - Active Preamp History
This thread title exists elsewhere both in the Documents section and cyberspace. It's actually morphed into a history of the active mic preamp. In March of 1984 I visited Al Burdick of Benchmark Audio in his garage in Garland, Texas. Al gave me a hand-sketched drawing of a preamp he had been workin...

Power Supply Filter Calculations
We often get the question "how large of a filter cap do I need?" Here's a way to calculate it: https://www.ka-electronics.com/Images/jpg/Ripple_Calculations.jpg The load resistance term, Rl, can be estimated from the average voltage (at a hypothetical regulator input) divided by the maximum expected...
