Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ranch
Just prior to remodeling the "atomic ranch" , the incandescent light bulb was issued a delayed death sentence by an act of Congress. Updated 4/25 added Cree CR6. I love the way incandescents look, they're cheap, easily dimmed and - when needed - warm a room. Based on what I've read, the 1...

Re: THAT1646 Current Booster and Transformer Driver
Once again I am shocked... Low distortion transformers seem counter productive for all the folks who use them solely to add coloration. Yeah, well. I suppose one could put a knob on the negative impedance and label it "color." Crusty, you readin' this? There is a lot to be said for a dab ...

Re: THAT1646 Current Booster and Transformer Driver
Thanks for the link. I saved it. I think Audio Precision got a patent on something similar as well which they used in the original System One. It is now expired. I may have a copy of that somewhere... Hofer, "Low-Distortion Transformer-Coupled CIrcuit," US Patent 4614914. http://www.proaud...

Re: PSU design assistance needed
Yes Q19 is a mpsA06 a higher current and higher voltage part than the 3904 but still only a to-92 so it is important that this device is turned on hard (saturated switch) and turned off hard. This hard on/off is accomplished by the 47k from the raw unregulated. The snap off hysteresis occurs becaus...

Re: PSU design assistance needed
The third figure down in the TS-1 post (also below) looks pretty clear to me. I'd right-click save-as offline and zoom. JR can explain the circuit. FWIW Q19 looks to be an MPSA06.

Re: THAT1646 Current Booster and Transformer Driver
OK, so the internal build-out with both 1646 outputs in parallel is 12.5R. Connecting a few dots from different threads (and life), One comment made in one of the Bateman capacitor article stuck with me.. the distortion in caps was reduced when driven from low impedance and increased at higher imped...

Re: THAT1646 Current Booster and Transformer Driver
Cool! Was it the buffered version or a bare 1646? Was there a build-out R?
If it's the headphone amp/buffered version you might be able to drop the 33R build-out. On the HP amps it's there for load short-circuit protection and with a tranny it could be lower.

Re: Cyril Bateman Capacitor Sound Archive
The Cyril Bateman Capacitor Sound articles featured in the July-December 2002 editions of Electronics World are below. The jpg scans of the original articles were sent to me some time ago (thanks Peter) and I decided to clean them up and assemble pdfs. Thanks also to ricardo for lighting the fire un...

Forgot to mention stomp boxes. Does Cool Audio make the NE570 too? Hmm...mediatechnology wrote:The NE570 is still made by ON Semiconductor in SMT. The IC is still very popular in cordless phones and wireless mics.
