I finally got around to scanning some of the material JR sent me.
This is the 1981 Signetics Compander Product Guide with applications.

Re: SMT passives for audio
1/(2 x pi x R x C) What JR said. Javascript calculator: http://www.muzique.com/schem/filter.htm With that dramatic of an audible difference I would be tempted to do some null tests between cap A and cap B to better quantify and qualify the actual differences. That's how I would go about looking for...

A Modern Loftech TS-1 Audio Test Set
This thread is a copy of the Loftech TS-1 Schematic document thread. JR is in the process of considering a modern replacement for the ubiquitous Loftec TS-1 using modern DSP-based electronics. I could do that entire puppy today, even better using only a few digital chips... (somebody stop me...) :l...

Re: SMT passives for audio
It seemed as a generalization, physically larger resistors performed better and, as previously mentioned, the Susumu and RCD resistors performed best. Glad I saved that e-mail. Bigger is better seemed to be particularly true with the Panasonics he tested. As I previously mentioned there are some sp...

Re: SMT passives for audio
Dave Hill of Crane Song was very kind to permit me to reproduce his SMT resistor findings. Thanks, Dave!

Re: SMT passives for audio
Yep, in that Panasonic line the 0805 vs the 1210 had an order of magnitude greater THD. So in that one particular case bigger was better. Susumu/Digi-Key have this tiny little figure that may show why the Susumu is better. It was once mentioned to me that they may have some magic in their annealing ...

Re: SMT passives for audio
The Susumu RR series seem to be readily available but the "audio" version RRS is pretty much unobtainium. That was my experience too. I'll see if I can find Dave's original research on the resistors "not as good" and then ask for his permission to use the data. EDIT: I found the...

Re: Mid Side M-S Matrix Construction Information
Are those still available? With 20 modern LEDs at 1 mA/each you should be able to light the room at FS. I think on one of the LM3914 GR-10 builds we had a series resistor in series with the entire parallel LED array. The problem was dropping the brightness beyond the LM3914's minimum current so Roge...

Re: Mid Side M-S Matrix Construction Information
Im also still not decided on if i should integrate this with a analog sum box im designing. Im leaning toward keeping this a separate unit all together. Well, with all the insert points it has you'll probably run out of back panel before you have room to put anything else in the box. :D On those LE...
