Re: SMT passives for audio

Here's the Susumu link:

Availability of these resistors with "comfort sound" through distribution was an issue:

Re: SMT passives for audio

I seem to recall reading something that the physically larger components are better behaved. Like given two resistors of the same value and composition, the larger of the two would be better behaved. We up-sized resistors by one size on a later spin of the board and changed vendors to reduce the se...

Re: SMT passives for audio

Thanks for joining us! There are some pretty significant differences in SMT resistors which, due to signal-induced self-heating, have better or worse THD-3. On a recent demo board THAT used Susumu because they tested better. Those are available from Digi-Key. Dave Hill of Crane Song shared some of h...

Re: MicMix MasterRoom Spring Reverb Project

The only one I remember having a mechanical VU was the MasterRoom B-series for broadcast. The model number doesn't seem to fit. I'd be intersted in seeing a picture. If there is a problem with the driver or electronics the parts will be numbered. IIRC the driver transistors were Motorola TO-66 devic...

The Man Behind the (Ribbon) Mic

PITMAN, N.J. — Clarence Kane possesses a skill set that makes him rather unique in age of “if it’s broke, throw it away” and “nothing’s made in America anymore.” He repairs ribbon (or, more correctly, velocity) microphones, and has been doing so for more than 30 years. Kane’s customers have include...

Re: DPOTs for audio control

Yes. VCA, SPI interface for control, stored wiper (gain) setting, slewing between steps with an external C to eliminate zipping. Add an analog Ec for realtime control. The VCA always wakes up with the last gain setting and moves between steps with a smooth linear dB slope. I didn't literally mean a...
