Re: Mid Side M-S Matrix Construction Information
I agree that the temp is too low. Have the same problem desoldering leaded radial caps on computer motherboards where the power planes are large and sometimes internal. It's a big heatsink for the iron. I think my Weller's tips are 700 degree (PTA-7?) and I didn't have a problem getting it hot enoug...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra
A quick update 6/28/11. As I mentioned earlier, four of the 40W Sylvania snow cones just aren't bright enough. Today while shopping at Lowes I found the Utilitech (Feit Electric) LA19DIM/800/LED which is a 60W 800 lumen 3000K. I'm impressed. These babies dim very well, are bright, and don't have an ...

Re: THAT1570/5171 DIP Adapter
The two jumper arrangement looks right to me. Going back to the noise performance I seem to recall the numbers 34 uV, 12 uV and 8 uV for the 1606, "Cohen" symmetrical 1286 (flipped input dual diff amp), and "Birt" NJM2114 with -5.6 dB gain. I think the measurement BW was 100 kHz....

Re: THAT1570/5171 DIP Adapter
IIRC on the original proto demo board the 1606 compared to Birt using a 5532/NJM2114 was at least 10-15 dB noisier. Enough to justify re-doing the board. If you don't care about maintaining output level no matter how the dumbass customers plug in, I still recommend the simpler and more symmetrical 2...

Re: THAT1570/5171 DIP Adapter
DN-140 reference to balanced output. It's not met to be balanced/unbalanced sensing. Good basis for an A/D driver. Far, far quieter than a THAT1646, SSM2142, DRV134. The advantage is low value feedback R's which we users can't change in the 1646. http://www.thatcorp.com/datashts/dn140.pdf#page=14 We...

Re: THAT1570/5171 DIP Adapter
My coffee hasn't completely kicked in so I am having a little trouble following that output topology. It looks like opamp section B is a unity inverter literally inside the feedback loop of section A. This can be done but generally you need to worry about stability and oscillation. JR.: This the ou...

Re: THAT1646 Current Booster and Transformer Driver
RF - Thanks for the update. I'm moving right now so my response is a bit delayed. While daydreaming about electronics the other day I had thought about this very circuit where multiple devices were paralleled and used to drive headphones directly. (I think I was daydreaming while mowing :D ) You thi...

Re: Texas Winter
We've almost caught-up on rainfall for the year but counties to the south and the drought remains unbroken. I saw a lake level report and the lowest around here IIRC was -3 ft. Lake Whitney/The Brazos River to the southwest ~60 miles was way down IIRC -14ft. I live on two creeks, one in Desoto the o...
