Analog Devices Agrees To Buy Rival Maxim

Post by mediatechnology »

A deal that was teased last night by WSJ has just been officially confirmed: semiconductor maker Analog Devices has agreed to buy rival Maxim Integrated Products for roughly $20.91 billion all in stock, for what many M&A experts believe could be the largest deal of the year.

According to the terms disclosed in a press release, Maxim stockholders will receive 0.630 of a share of Analog Devices stock for each share of Maxim common stock they hold when the deal closes.

Wow thats big news!

Seems like LTSpice will now incorporate maxim models.

Seems like the entire IC industry is closely becoming more and more a duopoly between TI and AD, next step is to buy ON and ST

It looks like softbank is thinking about selling ARM holdings... that could be a good get..... or not.

Is this good or bad about parts quality, performance, availability, price, second sourcing ?

Its always better than the companies going belly up but duplicate lines will (should) get thinned.

Usually when a company buys another company a lot of ICs get dumped and no new ICs under the old company name get produced, for example TI and National, TI dumped a lot of great National parts like the LME series, looks like TI is more interested on promoting their OPA parts instead. Same thing happens with AD and LT parts, and will surely happen the same with Maxim parts. It's a shame because there is less and less diversity, if companies try to compete they will develop new products, the less companies there are, the less interesting products.
