Group DIY Censorship Is Out Of Control

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

I stop by GDIY most days and see posts where I could make a valuable contribution ,
I also see posts where longstanding members with authorative knowledge on a subject get attacked by people who have no more than a passing interest and just want to generate an argument off the back of it .
Others so willing to help out they've become obnoxious ,
Ordinarily cool customers with their hackles raised all to hell,

Shame isnt it,

That was my experience in the GDIY technical sub-forums though I found the pickins of something that interested me was pretty slim.
The place has truly turned to shit though I admit to not visiting daily or even weekly anymore other than when you or Scott point something out.
It's not necessarily the moderation, except perhaps in JR's Brewery, and it's not the GDIY forum itself.
It's a minority of the the people who visit that ruin the experience for everyone. (e.g. thor.mzt and his ilk)
At this point in my life, after what I've been through medically, I don't need the aggravation.
I'd rather spend the time with my Wife and Dog.

DIYAudio is similar but not quite as bad - it depends a lot on the thread.

Ive seen it happen in several online communities over the years , where the tone and vibe takes a nose dive ,
its a stall thats very hard to pull out of , its never a matter of pressing a reset button and everythings fixed again ,

I guess we all meet people in life who we dont get along with ,
I remember when Thor first visited the forum and he got a very hosile response from a few ,en bloc , which I could see no reason for , it seem to stem from the fact that he'd emerged from the other side of the Iron curtain , a kind of a hangover effect from the cold war days .
My own interactions with him I have to say were good .

I had my fair share of dissagrements over the years , I hope for the most part the differences were ironed out ,
I do regret falling out with a few people and not having had the chance to rebuild things before I left ,
If I could turn back the clocks and offer a shaking of hands and a burying of the hatchets the two contributors that come to mind are Mike Sodderboy and Rocksodderstrom ,both with whom I had mostly good interactions with over the years ,

Im quite sure theres others who harboured resentsments towards me and my views on the world and the topics I raised but instead of having the courage of their convictions and entering the discussion , prefered to throw sticks and stones from the sidelines instead .

Its become very clear to me the ownership of GDIY is meddling in affairs there while attempting to remain unseen ,
I have to concede I wrongly laid the blame at JR's feet for some of what was going on ,
In the latest vanished thread JR points out the political/controversial section wasnt his idea in the first place and even questions the need for a locked subforum .

Groupbuilders behind the curtain pulling of levers and pressing of buttons is well documented and they dont have a hope in hell of vanishing all the evidence of it off the internet
Ever hear the saying 'He couldnt run a pissup in a brewery ' , that

I made my exit from GroupDIY after 19 years a few months back. The ongoing denial of GroupBuilder taking over and the changes made were bad enough, but the creation of the opt-in Dalit sub-forum where anything that hurt the tender feelings of one of a few very whiny members was the last straw for me. I also got the clear impression that some of my PM interactions with other members were monitored by "Angie."

We had an exodus of good members several times and that degraded the place, but it seems less than it ever was now. I know I twisted a few knickers there, but I diligently avoided polluting the tech forums with any political talk. I do recall one thread that CJ started about clipping diodes and tracing characteristic curves that got weird from my POV when one user attacked me for posting analog scope traces and a simple setup for producing such, calling it useless and unworthy. I felt like that was bias from some previous Brewery interaction. Some of the thor threads were also odd, but having worked with several engineers from the former Soviet Bloc I recognized some similarities in style.

Anyway, I used to dislike JR's posts back when he first joined. As I've aged into a borderline old gray dude I understand more where he's coming from. I know he was not involved in the decision-making or implementation of the Dalit sub-forum. I don't think he moved threads there, either. It's too bad that so many old forum sites are being ruined the same way. FB Groups are a very poor substitute, IMO, but a lot of hobby stuff has gone there.

My life priorities have shifted (whether I like it or not) and as a result my hobby time is limited. My music making is an hour or two a week of guitar noodling and I'm lucky to make or mod a pedal or two here and there. That's why I'm only lurking here. I enjoyed the good old days of GroupDIY and interacting with fellow audio/electronics nerds. Glad to see a few familiar users here.

Cheers,
AP

p.s. I won't be logging back in over there. Rusan sent me a msg (i got email notification). If someone could let him know I'm fine I'd appreciate it.

Hey AP, glad to see you again, I've missed talking to you.

I reckon that I am nostalgic for the good ol' days of Prodigy-Pro. I was a member there since '08 and I've seen how a once amazing forum turned into something completely different. Most of the big players were already gone before the acquisition: NYDave, bcarso (may he RIP), PRR, Sam Groner, etc... and only a few remain, such as Abbey, Jakob and JR.

The forum, at least for me, consisted of a constant battle in the Brewery trying to discuss matters with a group of unhinged individuals who seemed to be against anything considered traditionally good just for the sake of it. I found very few allies in these discussions such as yourself, fazer, JR and a couple of others. Although I must acknowledge that I also played a role in stirring up the hornet's nest many times. As to the audio side of the forum there were very few things I still valued. Most contributions were coming from newbies. I don't have anything against newbies, however, some were ungrateful and disrespectful. I remember one instance in which someone bashed Abbey after he gave some advice because he didn't like the tone of Abbey's answer. The other threads consisted of what seemed to be a pissing contest between thor and everyone else; thor contra mundum, and he showing off his circuits. To give him credit, he is a smart guy and does have some good ideas but after a while I just found it pointless to continue in that direction.

Who knows what will happen next. As far as I know none of the moderators are taking a dime for the work they are doing there, but I might be wrong. I believe that it is inevitable that at some point they will grow tired of the whole situation.

Anyway, it is great to see you again and welcome to the forum.

I want to thank everyone that has come here.

Left-Wing Social Media Platform ‘Bluesky’ Says It Cannot Keep Up With Users’ Censorship Requests

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/1 ... y-says-it/

The left-wing alternative to Elon Musk’s X platform is already running into difficulties with its promise to censor “harmful content.”
Bluesky, which has received millions of sign-ups from angry leftists boycotting Elon Musk’s X platform, has admitted that it cannot keep up with the number of moderation and censorship requests from its progressive user base.

In a post from “Bluesky Safety,” the company announced that it was receiving over 3,000 censorship demands per hour, leading to a backlog in its response times.

They explained:
Bluesky has grown by over 3M people in the last week — welcome! With every wave of growth naturally comes an increase in moderation reports. Here’s a status report on how the Trust & Safety team is handling it:

In the past 24 hours, we have received more than 42,000 reports (an all-time high for one day). We’re receiving about 3,000 reports/hour. To put that into context, in all of 2023, we received 360k reports. We’re triaging this large queue so the most harmful content such as CSAM is removed quickly.

With this significant influx of users, we’ve also seen increased spam, scam, and trolling activity — you may have seen some of this yourself. Our team is reviewing these accounts, and you can help us by reporting them by clicking the three-dot menu on each post/account.

We appreciate your patience as we dial our moderation team up to max capacity and bring on new team members to support this load. Your safety is our highest priority, and we’re glad to welcome you to Bluesky!

Thanks, AJ. I miss the old forum, too, but it's jumped the shark I'm afraid. I joined right after they'd moved it to Prodigy-Pro c.2004 or 05 when Chae Ham was running it. I was looking to build an LA-2A and SSLTech had just released his Bloo kit sold by scenaria. An innocent search led me to the forum and so started the journey. With CJ's help (he worked near where I did) I wound my first simple transformers (output for a pair of 312 clones). Also built some 1272 clones with Fabio boards. Fun times. I have a big box of unbuilt boards and parts that I'll likely never build. Such is life.

Re: Bluesky...wow. 50 censorship requests per minute. They can have it.

I spoke recently to a few people starting out in the IT sector about how the likes of FB polices content ,
first off the employees who do those jobs are contracted in from a third party agency , so the true stats dont show up on the company books .
Call centres already have an appauling rate of staff turnover , the worst in any industry as far as I can tell ,
People who police content for a living end up exposed to scenes of the most attrocious nature ,frequently ending up with PTSD , on strong meds or in need of councilling . As we see now many companies are struggling to deal with the level of complaints , but face huge fines and sanctions from regulators if they dont , their answer throw frontline staff to the sharks .
Finally Austrailia is taking action to try and prevent the harm to a younger generations , Its time Zuck ,Musk and their ilk got a gigantic boot in their arse.

Hi AP , welcome to the forum .

This reminded me of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPLQNUVmq3o

They are so unhinged that they cannot even have a conversation among themselves.

I didn't think of that before. Yes, it must be one truly disturbing job indeed.
